What is Appreciative Inquiry?

Appreciative Inquiry is a theoretical approach, grounded through searching for the best in people, organizations, and the world around them.

AI involves the systematic exploration of what gives “life” to an organization, group, or individual when it is most alive, effective, and functional. AI entails discovery, dream, and design while assuming that every organization, group or individual have multiple positive past experiences.

Appreciative Inquiry in Coaching

When used in coaching, this method builds on developing an individual’s strengths and helps a person envision a preferred future that is based on their past positive experiences. Individuals that are coached from an appreciative perspective find that they are energized and are able to mobilize untapped creativity and inspiration towards achieving their vision. Dr. Decker has used AI in coaching leaders to achieve new heights as well as individuals who are hoping to make stunning transformations in their lives.
